Babymoon - Top 2 Trips
As a parent, or a parent to be, you deserve some time for you, in the form of a baby moon or a break. So here are my top two choices for a gorgeous trip.
I believe these breaks should involve a little luxury, ease, and not tooooo many steps, especially if you’re about to pop!
Cambridge Babymoon (or Break)
So, first up, let me talk you through my recent birthday, child free trip to Cambridge. Planned the night before at 9pm I was pretty impressed with this one…
First up, hotel. We chose Hotel du Vin (old school luxury) and the ‘Wolf Blass’ suite which had two roll top copper baths, which I absolutely loved and got our moneys worth out of by enjoying 3 baths across a 24 hour trip…
Hotel Du Vin is also in a quieter side of town, a stones throw from the stunning Fitzwilliam Art Museum (which I highly recommend for some culture) and an easy walk into the city centre.
Lets talk itinerary and sometimes its nice to copy and paste if you’re busy.
Car parking in Cambridge is expensive… so we opted to go to the Trumpington Park & Ride (which is free for the first 18 hours) - if you want to stay for longer, use the RingGo app to extend your parking. Then get the bus into town (£3 single, or £4.50 if you’re doing a same day return).
After leaving our bags at Hotel Du Vin reception, we walked to Fitzbillies to grab a coffee and their famous Chelsea buns. So nice we actually went twice, our faves included: cinnamon bun, blueberry cheesecake bun and the mozzarella pesto focaccia were delish. We used the side cafe rather than the restaurant, which had far less of a queue!
Next we walked into town, having a little mooch in the shops and some beautiful art galleries. The market square is bustling with lots of food vendors which I had read can be a great lunch option!
Next we decided to try punting for the first time on the River Cam, we went to Scudamores on Mill Lane and bartered down the price (I had read online that’s what you need to do to get the best price!) - booked on, then nipped into the ‘The Mill’ pub next door to grab some Hugo’s to take on board the boat with us (taking your own drink & food on board is encouraged by Scudamores!). There is a floating Pimms/ice cream bar en route, but of course very expensive prices.
The chauffeured tour was soo lovely, and definitely recommend this over self hire punt - we saw SO many people crash into the riverbanks doing it themselves. Plus our tour guide, Moses, was so knowledgeable we learnt tons about the different colleges - it was great.
After our jaunt down the river, we went back to check into our hotel and enjoyed a bath before getting ready for the evening. We went to the cellar bar at Hotel du Vin for a pre dinner cocktail, before heading to Kibou for a birthday dinner. Excellent food, plus a lovely surprise of a birthday cake & birthday cake with sparkler on the house!
For an extra treat we visited the famous Jack’s Gelato (open until 11pm on bene’t street!) they have unusual flavours plus a secret menu flavour announced only on their instagram. Their freshly dipped chocolate cones are to die for.
The next day we visited Fitzwilliam Art Museum, go in the main entrance and start by going up the stairs doing the top floors first and make your way down. The ceiling itself is stunning, and was recently shortlisted for Art Fund's Museum of the Year award 2026
Then onto ‘Bread and meat’ which was honestly one of the best meals I’ve had in 2026. The roast beef sandwich and poutine was delicious. My expectations were high seeing this place all over social media, but they were exceeded. Well worth waiting in line outside for - they’re pretty speedy.
Cambridge was really lovely for a chilled getaway - great indie eats and plenty to see and do.
We missed out on the Cambridge botanic gardens which I’d add to our list next time.

My second baby moon suggestion is one we did a few years ago when I was pregnant with our second baby. My lovely husband booked this as a surprise and it was just so perfect as a trip with our at the time 3 year old..
Port Lympne Hotel & Reserve, Kent
Port Lympne is total luxury from the moment you check in...Toasting marshmallows on the fire and a delicious glass of champagne. Our treetop room was overlooking the rhinos which our son absolutely loved. We had our own private golf buggy to whizz us round the safari park in (perfect for my at the time very pregnant self!) and the food in the on site restaurants was absolutely stunning (and amazing kids menu too!). An incredible safari experience, plus playgrounds, with dinosaurs - it's the perfect family getaway. This is a real splurge, but if you can, it’s so so worth it for some special memories.
